| How is East Asian Studies
relevant to Public Relations? |
| |
| East Asian Studies is not
only about
what in realty is China or Japan. Specifically, it's
more about how we in the
West perceive those nations. In other words, it's
all a matter of perception and
representation. In the same way, public relations is about
how clients or issues are perceived or portrayed in the public's
eyes. A good PR practitioner is therefore someone who is
sensitive to how perceptions are formed and who is proficient in the
art of representation and critical thinking. East Asian
Studies has exactly given me that. |

| Why East Asia matters to the
Canadian Public Relations industry? |
| |
| East Asia matters to the
Canadian PR industry because: |
 | The East Asian population in Canada now
constitutes one of the largest ethic communities in the nation. |
|
 | Ethnic marketing has become one of the most
important public relations practices in many Canadian cities and
PR companies. |
|
| Furthermore..... |
 | East Asia-Canada trade has totaled more
than Can$42 million in 2003. This figure is likely to
increase in the future. Canadian companies interested in
investing in East Asia will likely require the professional help
of PR practitioners who understand Asia. |
|
 | China is now a member of the World Trade
Organization, and it's also one of the world's fastest-growing
economic powers. Canadian PR
companies' ability to innovate and renovate themselves in
trans-cultural communications will continue to determine their success in the global market. |
|
 | Canadian companies are now facing a tremendous amount of
challenges from players around the world, and sound solutions can
no longer be developed within the confinement of a single cultural
perspective. This is why my knowledge in
trans-cultural communications is important to Canadian PR
companies' success. |
